| Strong winds and damaging swell warnings for Tonga

A damaging swell warning is now in force for the northern and western coastal areas of Vava'u, Ha'apai, Tongatapu and 'Eua waters
A strong wind warning remain in force for all Tonga group.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Tomas (Category 4) was located 170km east of Suva, 600km west of Neiafu, 560km northwest of Nuku'alofa at 11:30am today. Close to its centre the cyclone has average wind speed of 95 knots gusting to 110knots easing to 80 knots within the next 18 hours. The cyclone is moving South at 8 knots. Associated cloud bands, strong winds and showers affect the group.
Forecast to midnight tomorrow for Tonga.
Moderate to fresh E to NE winds strong and gusty at times over most places. Cloudy with some showers, heavy at times over most places.

Strong and gusty north to northwest winds over most places, cloudy with some heavy showers.
